This is a visceral piece, I hope to get people riled up about it, on either side of the debate.

Eh went on for a while. If it was half as long and condensed I think it would be more effective.

You shit on Christianity then defend western civilization. The two are the same.

Also western civilization is empathically committing suicide but also western civilization is the best and you must swear to love it? You need to distinguish the two

Attention spans are the West's new strategic resource, and we're in a deficit.

You say it was too long. Fair enough. Sometimes you need a Tolstoy to paint a picture of a continent setting itself on fire, but I'll try to stick to the haiku version.

On the whole Christianity thing: you’re confusing the ancestor with the degenerate grandson. The West I admire is built on the skeleton of Christian ethics. It's the civilization that took concepts like individual dignity and the rule of law and built a world so comfortable people would rather risk drowning than not live in it.

The West that’s killing itself is the one that kept the Christian sense of guilt but threw out the concept of forgiveness. We're left with a permanent, secular state of original sin. We flagellate ourselves for our success, hoping the people who hate us will notice our virtue. It’s all the self-loathing with none of the salvation.

And how can the West be both the best and suicidal? Easy. Our civilization is a Lamborghini. It's a magnificent, high performance machine that everyone wants to drive. That's the part worth defending. The suicidal part is the current driver, a deeply insecure neurotic who is steering it off a cliff to prove he's morally opposed to the concept of roads.

I meant shorter as in condense your points for directness. Lots of repetition

Well said. I’m actually going to save that quote. Environmentalism comes to mind too
