This made me think of the quintessential American scam (also common in Australia and Canada) the Multi-level-marketing scheme.

American as apple pie:

1. Emphasis on the hustle.

2. Your failure to make it isn’t structural, it’s that you don’t want it enough.

3. Monetize all of your relationships.

4. Distrust the experts!

5. Produce just enough visible winners to make it seem possible to win.

6. Make it legal through lobbying, and opaque legal arguments.
